PE and Sports

At Grange Primary School, we teach PE in accordance with the National Curriculum, our objectives have been carefully mapped out to ensure progression is achieved from Reception through to Year 6. We take a holistic approach to physical education teaching ensuring our objectives focus on both the knowledge and skills to ensure pupils social, moral, spiritual, and cultural development is enhanced through Physical Education.

We have developed an exciting curriculum here at Grange engaging children in a wide variety of regular physical activity, incorporating the ‘Living, Learning, Laughing’ ethos into learning in order to build character, promote physical confidence and to encourage a healthy life style.

With our own sports coach and partnership with Elite school partnerships, we work together with the local community (Long Eaton United, Erewash gymnastics and Chilwell golf to name a few) to inspire all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other enriching activities. All members of staff engage in continued professional development ensuring they are constantly updating their knowledge of the Physical Education curriculum.

All Sports units work towards the ‘CARED model’ end of unit assessment where children demonstrate their skills during a match or, in the case of sports like dance or gymnastics, a routine. Pupils measure and track improvement in their own fitness levels across the fitness sessions and can talk confidently about what it means to have a healthy lifestyle.
